Common Questions about Enrollment

Common Questions about Enrollment

Common Questions about Enrollment

Q: Can you help me plan homeschooling for next year?
A: Yes, we are happy to help with ideas, encouragement, and specific recommendations without pressure, for your particular situation.  Your family situation, children’s needs, interests, and previous experiences are all important.  Just contact us by email or phone (902-847-0752).

Q: I am unsure what grade or level of course to register for my child.  How can you help me?
A: We would consider what learning and/or programs the child has had in previous year(s) and what are your educational goals.  You can also provide us with a writing sample or other work to consider.

Q: Is there a deadline for course registration for 2023-2024?
A: For most courses, no.  We accept enrolments at any time but the earlier, the better.  For Great Ideas Online, we recommend registration by mid-August at the latest.  For 5-Week Book Discussions: please sign up for the first two discussions by August 28, 2023 and the last two by January 12, 2023.

Q: Is there an official start time for your courses?
A: For most of our courses (except Great Ideas Online and 5-Week Book Discussions), no.  They can be started (and finished) at any time through the school year.  Most families work through Sept to May or so.  Others continue into summer.  Some high schoolers semester their courses.

Q: What does course tuition include?
A: Tuition includes:
    • login access to NEO, our student web portal
    • downloadable/printable course outline and schedule
    • personal evaluation and feedback for written submissions and/or tests
    • ability to ask evaluator questions related to assignments/tests
    • records and automated certificates for course completion
    • courses documented on transcript (gr. 9-12) and reports (gr. 7-8)
    • technical support for web portal, files, assignment submissions, etc.

Q: I have an older version of a course textbook.  Can I still enroll in a high school course?  Do I need to buy the newer book?
A: In many cases, you can still complete the course with the book you have.  We do our best to provide page numberings in our course outlines which correspond to the previous version.  Please ask.  Sometimes a new textbook is recommended.

Q: Can I request an accommodation to course format/content?
A: Yes, we can approve accommodations in individual cases where a student has a particular learning need or circumstance.  Please communicate the request at the time of enrollment.

Q: What happens if a student doesn’t finish a course?
A: The student will continue to have access to that course if they wish to resume at a later time.  We maintain all student marks/records.
